We are a 501 c 6 membership organization with over 100 members.
Our members are primarily independent businesses. A full range of
retail, service, manufacturing, institutional and non-profit or
comunity organizations located throughout the Town of Middlebury
are active members in the MBA.
The MBA was founded in the 1970s and was previously known as the
Downtown Middlebury Business Association. The MBA has an elected
Board composed of four officers and seven at-large members. Although
the MBA is primarily a volunteer organization, it does have a part
time staff and office located in suite 213 of the Battell Building.

Our mission is to promote and enhance business in downtown Middlebury and to make downtown Middlebury a better place to work, live, and conduct business.
Our work falls into two major areas. The first is partnership with the Town of Middlebury and other area organizations to identify and make capital improvements in the downtown that will ensure the continued vitality and bright economic future of downtown. The second broad category of MBA work is marketing and promoting Middlebury as a shopping and recreational destination for residents and visitors.
Our Board meets monthly and the full membership meets six times a year. Our committees meet on an as needed basis and include: Promotions, Improvements, Finance, Membership and Business Development, and Christmas.
